Menachem Chalif was born in Yugoslavia.
He endured the Second World War in Europe and was imprisoned
in the Nazi camps.
In 1949, at the age of 17, he immigrated to Israel and was absorbed
into a youth immigration institute. A year later, he received a study
scholarship at the Bezalel Art Academy in Jerusalem.
He studied under the guidance of Ardon, Ascheim, Eizenscher,
Vitkin and Yossi Stern.
Upon completion of his studies, he served in the Israel Defense Force
and studied painting and sculpture at the Avni Institute.
For a long period he painted impressions of the Holocaust and the war
in oil colors.
From 1973, he has been painting sceneries with dry pastel colors
on paper.
He has held about 20 solo exhibitions and has participated in
group exhibitions with other artists.
In 2004, he participated in a pastel color Biennale in Poland.
